Meet Mattie Ballentine. In October of 2009, 6-year-old Mattie, who stood out with her whiteish-blonde hair, was given a diagnosis that would change both her life and the lives of those around her. Mattie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Immediately, Mattie began treatment – involving routine spinal taps, and an intense chemotherpay routine that would last up until the early months of 2012. Instead of days filled with puppy dogs and butterflies, Mattie spent long stretches of time in the hospital, receiving chemo and other harsh treatments. Thankfully, she recently finished the extensive treatment plan, celebrating with a “No More Chemo” party with her friends and family. Despite being finished with the chemotherapy portion of treatment, Mattie will continue to receive routine scans to be sure that no disease remains and that no disease returns into her small body. Butterfly Kisses has been blessed to be a part of Mattie’s courageous fight against Leukemia.
